- A legal notice must be published in either the Alvarado Post or the Midlothian Mirror, or any newspaper with general circulation (at least one year) in the town. The Venus Voice will qualify as a general circulation paper in October 2011, but the earliest a beer and wine election can be conducted is May 2012.
- The 35 percent figure of voters is needed to sign the petitions (example: 100 petition signatures.)
- The Johnson County Commissioners Court calls the election
Opposition to beer and wine will come from the churches, but probably the stores in Midlothian as well, but the way to grow a municipal corporation we call a city is to grow it economically. Therefore, more sales tax dollars being spent in town will go to the town instead of Venus residents driving to Midlothian to buy beer and thus, giving Midlothian the sales taxes.

The City of Palmer is now "wet" because of this same strategy. We got the signatures, we got the votes (52 percent to 47 percent on Nov. 2) and now we have the experience to make other towns wet.

My sentiments exactly! It's about time.
