VENUS – City Administrator Jerry Reed is a busy man. A man with this many skeletons in his closet must need a lot of body bags by now.

Documents obtained through open records requests show that not only did he falsify his application to the City of Venus, but also that he used a different Social Security Number in several applications to the City of Fort Worth in 2003.

In an email from 2004, Fort Worth Human Resources stated, “Mr. Reed was only offered and selected for [a] Public Safety Communicator [position]. We have a different Social Security # for this person but same address.”

In Reed’s several applications to the City of Fort Worth, ranging from Water Systems Sampler to Code Enforcement Officer, the same DIFFERENT Social Security number was used.

Other interesting facts are stated in his applications such as the company Liberty Inc. as a former employer.

Located in Wichita Falls, Liberty Inc. is actually Liberty Baptist Church.
Reed’s salary for this job is listed as different in several applications, anywhere from $50,000 to$56,000 a year.

His positions are listed as senior administrator in one, chief executive officer in another, and even founder and CEO in another application, even though he listed a supervisor in all of them: Monty Walker.

In an interview with Venus resident A. B. Owens, it is alleged by Liberty Baptist Church members and relatives that Reed was a pastor in Wichita Falls who drained the church’s funds and ran off with another pastor’s wife, Betsy.

Reed was married at the time to Glenda Ford, who he has since divorced. The woman that he allegedly left Wichita Falls with is Betsy Reed, his current wife. Betsy accompanies Jerry to city council meetings.

In his application to the City of Venus, his previous employment page is peculiar when it comes to Liberty Inc. That’s because it’s not listed.

Instead, it simply states him as being “self-employed” with a yearly salary of more than $100,000 and that his reason for leaving is he “sold out and moved north.”

Sold out, indeed. This man was a supposed man of God, yet he stole the community’s money and ran off with another man’s wife.

Who is to say he doesn’t do the same in Venus? A city administrator has their hands in the city “cookie jar” more than anyone else on the council, including the mayor himself.

So, while our roads remain in a state of despair and upstanding citizens of Venus continue to work hard for a day’s pay, Reed is living the good life. The day may come where Reed takes everything for himself and leaves none for the rest of us.

I Was Falsely Accused...And Then I Was Wrong...

The name "Joseph" says it all, but here I am, once again, defending myself from false accusations, this time, in the form of an anonymous letter sent to at least one Venus ISD school board member as early as Tuesday, and several others in the community this week. When I drove to Venus this afternoon for their special school board meeting and was informed of this accusation, I immediately e-mailed Superintendent Bobby Matthews requesting that I at least get one minute before the start of the special meeting to tell the board that it was definitely not me who sent the anonymous letters. When I write something, when I say something, when I broadcast something, you know it's coming from Joey G. Dauben. I don't hide behind cowardly anonymous names. If I want to express my viewpoints, why in the world would I launch this Web site, start more than a dozen newspapers? My characteristics don't say, "hides behind screen names." I'm brazenly open and blunt about where I stand...

If it may be proper, BEFORE the meeting starts tonight, I want to tell you and the board members that I am being falsely accused of some anonymous letter being sent.

I just got into Venus and I have been hit with an accusation that I sent 3 board members a threatening letter.

I can state without ceasing that I had *nothing* to do with ANY letter.

I put my full name and reputation to *everything* I write or say.

I won't agree with the board a lot, but I'll be the FIRST to defend them against any threats.

And that's exactly what I told the VISD school board before their meeting began tonight. Right in their face. I wanted them to get it from me that it was not me, and that disagree with their politics or not, I would be the first person to defend them against threats.

I will be getting a copy of this one-page letter soon, and will disclose it to the public. In the letter, it mentions my name, and Lori Walkup, a friend who has had some very public spats with neighbors, the district, etc. There is even a threat that I've got school board trustees' phone lines tapped. I can assure you for one thing, I don't even have a printer, and two, wiretapping is highly illegal.

I WAS WRONG, I WAS WRONG, I WAS WRONG...This false accusation stuff is going to stop, and that goes for me accusing others in Venus -- wrongfully -- of things that I was only given bits and pieces of information on. I want to take this time to apologize to several VISD board members who aren't tied in with the corrupt Joe Russell Mafia ---- and I want to issue this public defense of four board members who have allowed me to "see the light." Greg Hoffman; Ashley Lawson; Kristi Sutton; Les Owens. I'm pretty sure this is going to stir all sorts of hell tonight, but I don't care. I have seen enough over a span of three months and three school board meetings and hours upon hours of meetings privately to know that they have the best interests of VISD at heart, and that they want to expose the corruption prevalant in the VISD.

Trustee Les Owens is definitely deserving of his very own photo. 

To those who led me astray, it's time to start packing your bags. I now know who the real enemies are, and I'm coming after you with every newspaper I have....

Venus Primary School Principal Slapped With Federal Lawsuit

I once again must set the example for the political establishment in these cities and towns: when you harass, berate, treat unfairly those who you are appointed to oversee, your children's actions become fair game. And this, because it happened to my good friend Lori Walkup, begats the federal lawsuit story. Jennifer Driver is the Venus Primary School principal; her husband Derek is the Venus High School principal. Their daughter threatened Walkup's son after she falsely accused him of stealing an iPhone:

Parent Alleges Outraged School Board President of Kicking Daughter's Car After Fender-Bender

Received a phone call recently from a source that alleges Venus ISD School Board President Greg Hoffman of kicking the front part of a 17-year-old Venus High School student's car after she accidentally ran into Hoffman's wife, who sits on the Venus City Council (there's a lot of governmental inbreeding.)

Here is the Open Records Act request I sent to the City of Venus for the incident report:

Dear Public Information Officer/Coordinator:

Per the Open Records Act, I would like to request a copy/the copies of the following:

1) A police report, incident report, accident report, emergency report or any other identifying document/report taken involving a recent incident with a Venus High School student and one of the following: Greg Hoffman or his wife, on or about the past four calendar months; please note: some information contained in such reports is not releasable under the Open Records Act, and therefore, I do not request information regarding the minor student's identifying information, nor any information that is normally not allowed to be released under the applicable open records laws; this request is designed to prevent unnecessary delays by requesting an outside Attorney General's ruling;

LULAC Looking Into VISD School Board Vacancy

According to Venus ISD Superintendent Bobby Matthews (very, very nice guy, by the way), Hispanic civil rights organization League for Latin American Citizens (LULAC) has inquired (as has The Venus Voice) into the new vacancy on the Venus ISD left by Vance Fields, who resigned recently. The biggest concern that The Venus Voice has is that the school board will appoint Fields' opponent in the May 2010 election, ousted incumbent Joe Russell. That would not be good, as there are many questionable things surrounding Russell's tenure on the board.


The Venus Voice sides with LULAC's push to allow a Hispanic representative appointed to better reflect the overall student population, which consists of a large Hispanic minority (if not a majority.)



While we're at it, Venus ISD should be carved into seven individual trustee districts or wards to better serve the needs of taxpayers and students alike.

UPDATE 1: According to comments posted on The Ellis County Observer, the cheerleader in question has been punished for the photos appearing on the Web site.

UPDATE 2: There is a video interview that Brannon Bridge and I conducted that will be uploaded to YouTube later tonight. Stay tuned, as it details more explosive information and allegations that this blog entry does not get into.

I warned you people not to screw with my friends, and now, I have to resort to the stuff you folks out in Western Ellis County didn't want to have published. Lori Walkup has had 17 Venus police calls to her house in less than five years, but only one ticket -- for allegedly flipping off her across-the-street neighbor, Mandy Thomasson (pictured below in a pink nightie.) Most of those calls were generated by this across-the-street psychopath. This psychopath is seen, has been seen and thanks to Brannon Bridge's Flipcam, has been videotaped staring straight at Walkup's house from her front yard. All the time. Day and night. Late at night. Early in the morning. Lori Walkup and her twin boys cannot even so much as go outside without some Venus squad car pulling up at her house.

No more Mr. Nice Newspaper. The moral of this story is: treat everyone as equals. If we're doing wrong, call us out on it. If you're in power, or close to those who are, and continue to get away with hypocrisy...then you are subjecting yourself and your family to this type of public humiliation. Thomasson's daughter, Bailey Jean, is the one with red hair. These photos were obtained using legal methods, i.e., they were posted on a social networking site in full view of the public.

I personally favor making changes to the law to allow 18-year-olds to drink. But, that's not the law now. It's also against the law to provide beer and alcohol to underage people. THe only thing I have a problem with in this arrangement is that it's purely hypocritical for the City of Venus to harass and intimidate one woman (Lori Walkup) for speaking out against the establishment, but turn a blind eye towards garbage like this psychopath neighbor. Don't forget, ladies and gentlemen, the people you screw could end up being my friend, and it's obvious from 10 years of newspapers and blogs that I stick up for people who don't have a voice or a hedge of protection.

I guess we are to go along to get along with the people who run Venus ISD and their kids threatening disciplinary action over false allegations. This one in particular involved Lori Walkup's middle school-aged son. He was accused of stealing an iPhone and later assaulted for it. Venus Councilman Randall Buck is the Venus Middle School principal who did nothing on this. The sender of this e-mail is the daughter of high school principal Derek Driver and Venus Primary School principal Jennifer Driver:
